where the air feels lighter,

the horizon feels endless,

and life slows to the rhythm of the waves.

Growing up on the coastline of Rhode Island,

I loved collecting shells.

I’ve always thought it was magical how

every shell is completely unique—

each shaped by the tides and tumbling

it’s endured in the waves.

The journey of the shell reminded me

of my own.

Seasons of rising and falling,

drifting and becoming,

tumbling and tides of low and high—

all shaping who I am today.

When I moved from the coast

to the city, life sped up.

It felt exciting and loud,

But I found myself longing

for the grounding, calm energy

that I had always felt by the beach.

I created a necklace with one of

my favorite shells

and it became my way of bringing

that energy I felt by the ocean,

back to the city with me—

a beautiful, physical, and

authentic symbol

of strength and peace;

that I could carry and hold

with me each day.
